Picard is SO British. Except when he's French.

How weird is it that anybody else in the crew even knew the words to Heart of Oak?
Speaking of which, it's a pity they didn't go on the the second version - proof that the "cheese-eating surrender monkey" dig isn't new.

We ne'r see our foes but we wish them to stay
They never see us but they wish us away
When they fly we will follow and drive them ashore
For if they won't fight then we can do no more.

I'm just amazed France still exists in the 24th century. Ha ha ha

Picard is SO British. Particularly when he's French.
Fixed. Seriously, I don't think I ever saw anything that demonstrated he was French. Did he ever even speak any French?

His brother owned a vineyard. I don't recall seeing too many British vintages lately.

Occassionally. Rather stiltedly, and with a hint of a Yorkshire accent.

We do have some.

I see Picard's "French" heratage, combined with his evident pride in Trafalgar, as evidence of the Angevin Empire being reestablished. :P

Maybe he was proud that his ancestor survived Trafalger? Or there's been some bizarre recognition of it being an awesome, defining event in French history. Kind of like Louis Riel and the Red River Rebellion/North-West Rebellion in Canada.

Or with his ego, he was grasping at any claim to fame.

Yeah, maybe the British conquered France in the 21st century and that's where Picard's ancestry's from.

Why would that be, he's been established in-universe as one of the best captains in the fleet. He doesn't need to inflate his ego.

Egomaniacs can always use a bit more. They always want a little more recognition and approval. At least the ones I know do.

Edit: Disregard my last. I'm going to have to ask you for some examples, it's been a long time since I've seen S1 and most of it was best left forgetten IMO.
