You're going to have to be more specific then "that".

OK, then - we're all speculating here - where was it mentioned that the MU was a continuously-parallel, rather than branch-line, universe?

It wasn't but it is logical, as the mirrior universe is parallel, but has a history that while parallel to our own does not appear to have split from our own.

It just seems to be an equal opportunity for either case. There's a finite history for the MU given.

Indeed, it could be anything. I think it's more likely that it's merely an alternate timeline, though, where they branched off from us at some early stage.

The alternate timeline could kind of explain the differences in the mirror universes between series - namely the humans going from evil counterparts to themselves in TOS, and being, well, kind of not so bad in DS9.

They could be different universes altogether.

I dont think it ever branched off. It has always been amoral.

Millions of years ago humans were evil monkeys.

I mean it branched off with the formation of the Terran Empire.

Yeah, I tend to agree with Kostmayer - an alternate-timeline case would help to explain the inconsistencies in the MU from franchise to franchise.

ENT-TOS: Humans are evil bastards of the Galaxy.
DS9: Terran Empire conquered and pacified in 2370.
To put it in realistic terms, they were pacified for the most part between being conquered and "Through the Looking Glass."

Exactly - something had to change their outlook. Having had a less consistent hisotry of "badness" - as in the branch-line case - makes that a little easier to take.

Well humans in the orignal universe were more hardcore in TOS era and more wimpy in TNG.

So the opposite had to happen in the mirror universe.

Personaly, I'd say the likely time that the universes branched off would be at the landing of the Vulcan ship. One universe saw them as allies, the other saw them as something to be exploited.
I'm thinking the mirror universe aggressive tendencies have to do with an imbalance in midicholrians. Its the only explanation.
