Good point, Sunny, but even on the Akira the "through-deck" set-up is non-canonical.

Well true cannon is fairly hard to come by on Trek. But we know the clear intent of the designer for the Akira.

Still the Yamaguchi was made well before the Akira, and I have a hunch it could have just been added because some art guy though it looked cool and the part from the excelsior class was sitting around. Kitbash!

But at least that's something cool that could be done with it.

For obvious reasons, I like my own idea - but of course, I'm basing that on Graham's speculation that the class was designed more for envoy missions than warfare. If the latter is more the case than the former, a "stow-andlaunch" arrangement makes at least as much sense.

The Ambassidor was designed in a time of peace so it makes sence that it geared for that role.

HMS Sovereign of the Seas technically was too, but it was the most bad-ass first-rate ship of the line ever.

England was never at peace. It just went through periods where everyone was to afraid to attack it. Not the same as peace.

As much as any ascendant or dominant power - liek the US of the 20th century, like the UFP of the 24th.

The point is the same. Charles at the time had nothing even near a real need for a 108-gun ship of the line, and certainly nothing pressing that required the whole damn thing to be gilt.

You're probably right. All that inbreeding had to affect something...

Actually in the write up they attribute the extra shuttlebay to colonization efforts. That would work well with a convery belt type system as you rotate through shuttles to move the heavy stuff down.

Which could probably double as the "stow-and-launch" fighter set-up... except we never saw fighters until DS9...

Was the ship used by the Maquis ever a fed fighter?

I think that was a raider and larger than a fighter.
