Chekov wasn't part of the bridge crew at that point. He may not have known where they were at the time.

Fair enough but Khan did know Chekov by sight though. I guess that's likely to mean that they were 'introduced' to each other.

I seem to recall reading somewhere, I believe on Trekmovie.com that Ricardo Montalban said in an interview that he likes to think Chekov was a poor junior officer somewhere who held Khan up trying to use the bathroom.

I'm not talking about the fact of the sentencing but the details of it. You went from this:
Khan was a civilian, and should have been remanded to the court system for trial and sentencing.
Arguing against Khan's marooning because he should have been sent to a civilian court. To this:
I guess the wicket is this: was Kirk out of bounds in applying the sentence that he did? In other words, was banishment to the planet a charted response to the crime?
Implying that your problem is now with the sentence itself rather than its origin.

I don't see the dichotomy that you seem to. Ah well, we probably don't like the same foods either.

That's what Waler Koenig said at a convention I went to as well.

Or maybe it was Koenig. It was one of the two... :worried:

The EU novels that follow Khan and his exile have an excellent explanation for it, Chekov was the officer in charge of setting them up on the planet and escorting them down.

That being the case, you'd have figured he would have said something to Terell. Unless for some reason is was classified???

All right. No new ones, so I'll submit this list for a new poll. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. :)
