I figured that's what you ment.

ya, I thought about angling them up, but at the same time, with most of the other ships I've created hiding their nacelles begind the saucer for protection, I thought I'd draw it that way and see what kind of responce it got.

I think I'll change it so the nacelles are more above the saucer.

Actually, I like the idea of the low profile. Would the fronts of the nacelles be close enough to the saucer to interfere with the bussard collectors, though?

Hey, I had a thought...............MUST the bussard collectors be on the nacelles?

I don't know enough about how far away the two have to be to work properly, so I can't answer that question Seafort.

Mark, idk about that either, though if I understand the function of the collecters, It doesn't sount like it. They could be anywhere, the nacelles are probably just the easiest and most logical place to put them In most cases.

Given what they do, I'd expect the nacelles would be a bad place for the collectors. The fuel tanks are in the engineering hull, so surely that would be the best place to have the collectors - as it is you have to pipe whatever gas they suck in through the nacelle, down the strut and into the engineering hull. Lots of unnecessary pipework there.

Unless there is some sciency reason to have them there. Maybe the warp field is what channels the gas into the collectors, so they have to be on the front of the nacelle?

I never thought about it that way...I always assumed that since they're on the front of EVERY nacelle that was the easiest place for them...but then again when has Starfleet ever done something logical?

I always figured they were at the front of the nacelles because they were in a decent place to actually be exposed to whatever they're collecting.

A better place would probably be at the center of the Deflector, you could use the deflector as a funnel then.

But there's already something where the deflector is - the deflector is there.

You could put the collectors on either side of it, I suppose.

Or in it. The thing's enough of a swiss army knife as it is, one more bit of kit won't make much difference.

They seem to be able to shoot pretty much anything out of it; maybe intake is just a step too far.

That's what I was thinking...surround the bussard collecter with the deflector emmiters creating a cone like shape deflecting the hydrogen into the collecter.

A delicate one. IIRC didn't a single shot from a phaser rifle destroy E-Es?
