another that I found. I notice that it appears that the Phasers are mounted on the edge of the saucer instead of having Dorsal and ventral arrays (or at least in combination with).

Assuming that those black strips are phaser arrays. This one looks completely different again - to me, it now seems like a Sovereign-era Nova-analog or some sort of escort/frigate type.

And from what I understand its a heavy cruiser size ship.

My question: Where's the bridge module? Did they actually design a ship without the bridge sticking up from the top of the ship?

That would violate Roddenberry's rules. It's probably that big window-ish thing in that spine along the dorsal saucer.

Not a canon ship though so it doesn't really have to follow his rules.

According to David Mack, the Vesta-class bridge is buried deep inside the ship.
There is not a problem in this world that can't be solved without the proper application of a sufficient number of thermonuclear ordnance.

Is that the class name of the Aventine? I haven't read any of the books.

Yes, the class name of the Aventine is Vesta.

Is it just me, or has the Sovereign seemed to have become the basis for any and all new trek ships?

I think it's more accurate to say that the new fan-made ships are based on the same design aesthetic as the Sov... but yes, you're right. There is certainly precedent for that, though - look at the similarities between the GCS and the New Orleans-class, or refit Connie and Miranda (I know about the TOS Miranda, but it's non-canon.)

Granted, but based on the fan designs, you'd think the entire fleet was made of Sov's and their descendants. Where are the designed based on the Nebula lines? The Defiants, the Akiras? There are plenty of design bases to choose from, but everyone always picks the Sov.

to be fair the Nebula is based of the Galaxy. The Sovereign is what the Galaxy was before it and the Constitution before it. Their generation ships that push what is possible out of starfleet. Not surprisingly other ships of the era are then modeled around those ships.

Starfleet will look much more Sovereign-ish until the next Generation ship is made when it will change, but just like we still see the basic form of the Constitution, different concepts from the Galaxy in the new Sovereign based ships (as we saw them in the Sovereign itself.) we'll continue to see the lineage on through.

Just my take on it.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I have no problem with there being a large number of sovereign derivative ships, but there should be some more lines shown. There should be an advancement of the Defiant class (and one that doesn't look like a flying Glockenspiel), there should be developed versions of the Akira and the Prometheus classes.
