Well, the snow has returned to Dublin in force. Oh joy.
Also, whoever came up with the idea that Christmas presents needed to be wrapped deserves a punch.

Re: DADT Repealed
Considering that homosexuals had already been serving in nations all over the place without major incidents occuring (including your nothern neighbours, I believe), it was pretty obvious from the start that repealing DADT would have damn all effect on the military. Anyway, glad to hear that it's gon...

Re: Shows they SHOULD try a remake on....
I would LOVE to see a War of the Worlds that was actually a faithful adaption of the novel, i.e. set in Victorian England. Somebody actually did it about the time the last movie came out, but it was a micro budget straight to DVD thing that sucked balls, apparently. I'd love a good WotW adaption. W...

What causes the sound driver to become corrupted in the first place? Is it some sort of virus I picked up?

Re: US Mercs Involved In Child Prostitution In Afghanistan
The long run has nothing to do with anything. Whether or not Wikileaks does good or ill is irrelevant - the fact remains that the only reason Wikileaks exists is so Assange can say "Look at me! Look what I can do!" Any results from what they do are purely coincidental. I'm not so sure abo...

Re: Primitive Societies And Advanced Technology
I think guns might be the wrong subject to use when discussing how easy it is to differentiate between technology a century or two apart. At the end of the day, a gun of any description follows a pretty standard shape and has, more or less, the same effect. Take something like a warship, though. An ...

Re: Another Take On Avatar
I didn't mind the Unobtanium either. The term has been floating around the internet long before Avatar's script was ever writtene up, used simply to refer to whatever super-elements a particular show was talking about. I felt that the use of the term in Avatar was something of a humerously intended ...

Success! The gods of computing have smiled upon me. Never have I been so happy to hear the much-cursed sound of Windows Security Centre informing me of the blatantly fucking obvious.
Thanks for the help guys!

Re: My Laptop Will Not Play Sounds
I've only just gotten to work on it now.
I couldn't find anything that told me which audio driver I currently have, so I just went onto Realtek's website and started downloading the first one I saw that said it worked for Vista. I'll let you guys know how it goes in a few minutes.

Primitive Societies And Advanced Technology
The recent reanimation of Avatar threads has made me start thinking about the Na'vi, and how primitive alien societies in general are portrayed. In the movie, the Na'vi seem rather apathetic towards things like guns, mass deforestation, strip mining, and giant flying gunships. Admitedly, the humans ...

PM Ian and ask him to add it to the roster of smilies.
At least now the ice seems to be starting to thaw. There's definitely a hell of a lot less than there was at the start of the week.
