Re: What's the latest in people's lives?

My mother's been home the past two weeks due to a viral infection, but it's a lot better now. McAvoy, how was the marathon? Best to watch Trek after several years. You may know the episode and how it ends but you forget alot of stuff in between. Also got me thinking about the political situation si...

Re: The Eight Star Fleet Ship Design Rules

The story is that Gene was very supportive of the Franz Joseph tech manual back in the day - made after the original series, Gene would support anything that kept Trek alive. But then TMP rolled around, and now he wants it clear that he and he alone is Mr Trek, so he decides to quash the TOS TM. Hen...

And so, it begins.

I've really started it. I'm sitting down and watching original timeline Star Trek, from start to finish.

I'm not planning to write episode reviews or anything, but I will comment from time to time on how it's going and anything that springs to mind.

The marathon to end all marathons!

Re: USS Enterprise F Retrospective

Visual Guidance for the shuttle pilot prior to the shuttlebay flight controller triggering tractor systems. It's also why real life airport runways have the lights at the start and end, despite computer-controller landing systems existing. and without those, aircraft carriers use those angle-sensit...

Re: USS Enterprise F Retrospective

I've never understood the recent trend towards shuttlebays with runways leading into them. Shuttles don't need runways, so it's just wasted space.

I always wrote it off to 'they would have changed it once they hired Stewart, but it was too late to rewrite stuff.'

Re: Today I Watched...

Today I watched... The Invisible Man. This is a very different Invisible Man than most we've gotten. There are no scenes of a team working away on the magic formula, no scenes of a guy turning invisible, no government plot, no billion dollar company, none of it. What this is actually about is an abu...

Re: Fan Created Enhanced Original Enterprise VS Discovery's Enterprise - A Case For the Original!

Kind of disagree with that here. Now, this stems mostly from my childhood and only applies to the E-Nil, but I actually liked that you couldn't see weapons per se. Indeed, only watching the TV Show as a kid and not going on the internet researching background material, for the longest time I actual...

Re: Picard: the series as a whole

One issue I had was that they never really explored what was going on with the Romulans. So the Romulans had a whole Star Empire. Who knows how many planets - dozens, most likely, if we go with the 150 planet membership of the Federation. So the loss of Romulus and Remus, whilst a disaster, shouldn'...

Re: Fan Created Enhanced Original Enterprise VS Discovery's Enterprise - A Case For the Original!

The shell of the TOS Enterprise was deliberately made very plain and free of 'stuff' because they reasoned that putting equipment on the hull is a bad idea - you want all that stuff inside, so you can easily access and fix it. That said, the one thing I wouldn't mind as a change would be visible wea...

Re: Today I Watched...

Today I watched... 47 Metres Down : Uncaged Very little connection to the original 47 Metres down, apart from 'they both have sharks'. Basic premise is that there's an archeologist type guy working on an underwater Mayan city. His daughters and a couple of friends sneak off one weekend whilst he's w...

Re: Music you like.

That movie is one of those films that just utterly embraces what it is, without fear of what anybody else will think of it. It's silly, camp, absurd, makes very little sense, but it has more integrity than any two typical films combined.

Re: The Joke Thread

A guy calls a law office and asks, "How much will it cost for you to answer 3 questions?"
The lawyer says, "About $3000"
"Isn't that kind of high?" asks the guy.
"I guess," says the lawyer, "What's your last question?"
