Re: Flying lines of text

This is the one of the strangest elements of the Star Wars universe, yet it has gotten no serious attention from the geek community. Just imagine Han piloting the Falcon through some part of the SW Galaxy when he encounters three short paragraphs or so scrolling past. Where do they come from and wh...

Re: Spoileriffic Force Awakens Thread

One thing I was a bit unlear about is that they seemed to refer to the Republic and the Rebellion as if they were two different things. I was curious why there even is a Rebellion any more, since the Empire has fallen and the Republic is back in charge in most places. I guess you could say they're ...

Why aren't pulse jets used in modern designs?

What are the limitations of pulse jets that make them unsuitable for modern jet aircraft? You don't see pulse jets on any jet aircraft. Do they not produce enough thrust? They can't scale well? It's a shame because they seem so simple compared to a modern jet engine. Or is the simplicity its downfall?

Re: I just had to share this....

If you could see my face right now, it's probably what you'd look like if I started talking about baseball statistics from 1972. By way of explanation, evidently someone tried to fit a very large cooling fan onto a small board in a very small case (then found reason to complain about the poor fit, ...

I just had to share this....

I've seen some pretty idiotic things but so far, I think this is the best. In this review of the Cooler Master Elite 110, some fool tries to fit an m-ATX board into a MINI ITX case!!! >< EDIT: There are some other pretty hilarious reviews. I wonder if people saw his and just started posting joke rev...

I guess thats why the video actually impacted me; I'm just a bagger, something that could be easily replaced. :?

Re: Shouldn't Automation Usher in Utopia?

Great in theory but how does it work, exactly?

So, I guess that's the problem. :(

No idea what to do about it.

Shouldn't Automation Usher in Utopia?

I've always been a bit skeptical about automation, my thoughts being "I guess we'll get there someday" but this video makes it clear that automation is not scifi and a lot of forms of automation are basically just around the corner. And it certainly sounds sinister on the face of it, but I...

Re: Lightcraft?

You gotta wonder how efficient it is. And just how high power a laser would you need to launch a serious craft this way? Presumably it wouldn't work well in fog/rain/cloud/snow, but if it's being used for space launches that's not such a big deal. They wait for good conditions anyway. Good point ab...

Stealth in Space?

So, I got that that's not possible in reality, but actual stealth is about minimizing detectable signatures, not being completely invisible no? That said, what if you wrap your ship/station in a plausible visible light cloak like the metamaterial stuff in development, and park it in near orbit to a ...

Re: Might be time for a new mouse...

Actually it's USB micro b ('C' only refers to a new reversible connector for USB 3.1). Anyway, any kind of connector can wear out if plugged and unplugged frequently. It certainly happens a lot on phones and I've had it happen to portable HDDs. Yeah, a wired/wireless combination is a niche feature....
