Re: A minor way that Trek sucks
I think when necessary, Klingons and Vulcans identify themselves by their fathers (grandfathers, etc) - e.g. "Worf, son of Mogh", or "Spock, son of Sarek, son of Skon, son of Solkar" from TVH. I'm not sure what females do.

Re: Too many ships on the dance floor
Related question: Let's say I'm piloting a spaceship, and I'm approaching Planet X at .01 c from a distance of several AUs. Would I be able to settle into a stable orbit just using the planet's gravity, or would I have to turn my ship in the opposite direction of travel and fire my main thrusters in...

Re: Too many ships on the dance floor
So for a fusion-powered interplanetary ship with a top speed of .01c, what do you think would be a plausible acceleration?

Re: Too many ships on the dance floor
In my writing project, the human race will have maybe 8 major inhabited planets, and there will be a couple alien empires that have maybe a few dozen each - not a scale where planetary annihilation can be written off easily. I think I'll take some inspiration from B5 and other sources to try to mini...

Too many ships on the dance floor
I've had this question in the back of my mind for some time, but I really want to figure it out for my current writing project: doesn't the typical space opera give way too much destructive power to way too many people? In both Star Trek and Star Wars, anybody with means can have a spacecraft capabl...
