Re: Noncombatants in the Dominion War

I don't recall the episode in question, I thought you meant they had discussed gassing them. So if they were gassed: How big was the population? How resource rich was the planet? Was it in a strategic location? How much trouble had the populace been causing? Did it have any factories, fuel depots o...

Re: Pictures from the new TOS movie

So anything that is historic is crap, or do you refer to just movie history? I believe he is referring to Trek prequels rather than History itself. By going back and visiting a previous time frame there is much less you can do, you can't have the Ferengi, the Borg, Cloaking Romulans or introduce ma...

Re: Noncombatants in the Dominion War

Correct, but there's a difference in wiping out small worthless colonies established in your territory and wiping out well populated, built up, resource rich planets. Any infrastructure they can capture intact (fuel facilities, starship construction yards, power plants, manufacturing plants, resour...

Re: Morning rant on ST 11

Maybe you're right. I could be totally full of it. I should definitely work on going in without jaded attitude. It's just that the whole idea that this film is not a reboot OR a prequel is sort of concerning to me. I mean, which is it? It has to be one or the other. I can't help but wonder if J.J. ...

Re: Noncombatants in the Dominion War

True, well despite the fact that we didn't see what happened to these colonies I think we can pretty safely assume that they were no Risa. Also, at one point Weyoun and Dukat are talking about a possible Dominion Victory, Weyoun points out that holding the Federation will be difficult given its size...

Re: Noncombatants in the Dominion War

Well we know from 'The Quickening' that the Dominion is willing to use Biological Weapons a a Planet full of Civilians who disobey them as an example and that these weapons affect the planet for generations. We also know from 'Rules of Engagement' that Klingons kill all of their enemies regardless s...

Re: Morning rant on ST 11

Now, up to 53% of the American population have idenitified themselves as Star Trek fans to some extent or another. They would remember something interesting, like Khan or the Klingons or Captain Picard's experience with the Borg. I don't see why the next film is attempting to get at the 47% who are...

Re: The Motion Picture Vs. Star Trek 11

There is one big difference between TMP and STXI besides the cast, its a prequel. I just don't see why we need that. The idea was mentioned that they could do a new movie, set into the future, if it does good then you make a series based off that crew. I would prefer what BSG did with the Miniseries...

Re: Pictures from the new TOS movie

At first I didn't like the idea of recasting TOS, I'm still not a huge fan of it, I will always see the original actors as the only people to play those roles. I'm not saying they will fail or suck in the roles I just like Shatner as Kirk, Nimoy as Spock, Kelley as McCoy etc. What most concerns me i...

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships

Its funny that they blast Trekkies for being a bunch of fanbois but yet they are just as bad, if not worse than some Trekkie Fanbois. The continually have to twist what is said to fit their own arguments and then bash others for doing the same. Frankly this whole thing they have with SW vs ST is cra...

Re: Dukat-class

But they didn't. Then you have to manufacture power plants for each of those individual platforms which might wreck any economic value they might have for a resource stretched Cardassia. You also then have to either remove something or make them bigger to hold that power supply, either way you are g...

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships

I love EAS. It easily outdoes DITL in terms of researching the real world details of how a ship was built; if you want to know what models were used to kitbash something, or how many rows of windows there are on the Excelsior model, stuff like that, then EAS is the best there is, far and away. I ha...

Re: Dukat-class

I aways assumed Plasma torpedoes were one of the least advanced torpedoes around but where cheap and easy to build and could also be made powerful if made big enough. Agreed. TOS: "Balance of Terror" seems to make that point. Relatively low-tech, great destructive potential, but hampered ...

Re: Morning rant on ST 11

The closest thing I can think of to that would be his assignment infiltrating the Macquis. He has had a fairly long career in Starfleet even though he left for a period, it is possible that he did Spec Ops in the past but I don't know of the specific reference.

Re: Dukat-class

The Borg used regen hulls, not sheilds. The Drones were protected by Regenerative Shields. From Memory Alpha: The basic principle of regenerative shielding was to quickly analyze an attacking weapon's frequency and then modulate shield freqency to increase damage mitigation without depleting shield...
