Re: STID review/discussion for those who've seen it SPOILERS

Great review Graham. It is a good point you make that this Khan is fundamentally different in that his anger is directed towards Admiral Marcus and Starfleet generally, not Kirk in particular. But I do prefer Cumberbatch's quiet pronouncements of impending doom to Montelban's flowery speeches. I wou...

STID review/discussion for those who've seen it SPOILERS!!!

THIS THREAD IS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE OR DON'T CARE ABOUT SPOILERS. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. So Star Trek has an official release date in Hong Kong of 16 May but for some reason there were previews this weekend so I nabbed a ticket. Not even a full cinema! Hopefully not a bad sign... Anyway g...

Re: What happens when the Romulans learn they've been tricked?

What happened when we found out there was no WMDs in Iraq? A lot of people got mad, made some of the officials responsible sweat, everyone swore they relied on what they thought was credible intelligence, and by then we were knee deep in Iraq so the whole issue was moot anyway. I can imagine some UF...

Re: Book: Titan: Over a Torrent Sea

Just finished this one. Bennett's first Titan book, Orion's Hounds, was a pretty hard act to follow, and this doesn't quite measure up. Still a worthwhile read. This guy does science fiction with the emphasis on science, which is no bad thing. He obviously did a lot of reading on marine biology and ...

Re: You know what this means...

Ok, theory number 1: the differences between TOS and STXI before the arrival of Nero were caused by the knock on effects of the events of First Contact. We saw at least one of those knock on effects in ENT - the Borg in the Arctic. Who is to say there weren't others? Theory number 2: the differences...

Least they kept the best right?
As one of the only posters on this forum who actually enjoyed ENT, I feel compelled to say:

"Who's the preferred time line now, biatch?!!"

Re: You know what this means...

Age is not a problem. The UN projects that by 2300 (yes, they have thought this far ahead) the average life expectancy in the first world will be around 106. Currently it is 75-80. So living to 140 will be no more remarkable than someone living to 110 now. Rare but not impossible. We can safely assu...

Re: ST:XI Spoiler Thread (READ AT OWN RISK)

I'm curious CaptainQuantum (or 'Q' for short...) I know you've probably not seen the film enough times to be able to remember every detail but would you say, on any level you could draw any sort of relationship from ENT at all? Maybe not directly, like a character saying "Yes, in 2152 when Cap...

Re: ST:XI Spoiler Thread (READ AT OWN RISK)

There is an article in the newspaper today about Riverside, Iowa, hoping to attract tourism as the birthplace of Kirk. Now I have heard of this town before but... has anyone told them that in ST:XI Kirk is born in a shuttle? They're gonna be so pissed. Also, from what we see, it doesn't look like th...

Re: If you were only going to watch one episode

This is not hypothetical for me; my wife has only ever seen one episode - The Inner Light. She actually admitted that she really liked it, then said "but that's not real Star Trek - there was no spaceships or funny headed aliens". Sigh. I'd go for either go for the really thought provoking...
