Re: 'Dune' Official Trailer
Idk...I never understood the hate and criticism leveled at the 1984 movie. I read the books, still like the movie. It is not perfect but visually it is still imho one of the most impressive things considering the time it was made. It basically set the visual tone for everything Dune related that cam...

Re: Picard: the series as a whole
One issue I had was that they never really explored what was going on with the Romulans. So the Romulans had a whole Star Empire. Who knows how many planets - dozens, most likely, if we go with the 150 planet membership of the Federation. So the loss of Romulus and Remus, whilst a disaster, shouldn...

Re: Picard: the series as a whole
Now by and large one has to admit.....it just wasn't very good. Don't even want to go into detail here...it was objectively just mediocre at best and sadly Sir Stewart is really showing his age now. (Actually..he looks still great for his age, but the way he speaks.....that is really were it shows)....

Re: Fan Created Enhanced Original Enterprise VS Discovery's Enterprise - A Case For the Original!
That said, the one thing I wouldn't mind as a change would be visible weapons. Have them pop out like the NX-01 phase cannon if you like, but I prefer good sized very visible weapons. Kind of disagree with that here. Now, this stems mostly from my childhood and only applies to the E-Nil, but I actu...

Re: Fan Created Enhanced Original Enterprise VS Discovery's Enterprise - A Case For the Original!
I much prefer this version. It is updated enough not to disfigure compared to modern CGI but reasonably faithful to the original While more closer to the original and while his 3D modelling skills are impressive.....he really didn't do anything that really "improves" upon the original. Th...

Re: Star Trek: Picard | NYCC Trailer | CBS All Access
Interestingly....I rather liked the feel of it. Compared to Enterprise and Discovery....it feels like this actually plays in the prime timeline/universe. Positive : that looked like an actual Romulan warbird. That's a very good thing, it implies that the ship designs in the show are going to be sens...

Re: Picard rumour/speculation
So here's a... not even sure to call it a rumour. It's a speculation, basically. But an interesting one. I post it merely for discussion, with no claim that it is so. The gist : Patrick Stewart is too old to do an ongoing series. He's also too likely expensive to do an ongoing series. Therefore... ...

Re: Games "If they made this" wishlist
Another Starfleet Command.....not the brainless Starfleet Command III but a proper successor to Starfleet Command I or II with an interesting campaign and proper storytelling. Add to that a nice ship management tool where you have to really manage the crew, the ship etc. to keep them at peak efficie...

Re: First Contact - Enterprise-D Intro (Venture Variant)
I never felt the Sovereign was a direct successor to the Galaxy class like the Excelsior was to the Constitution and the Ambassador to the Excelsior and of course the Galaxy to the Ambassador. To me it seems to be a more contemporary type of ship. Sort of like for example, if the original JFK CVN-6...

Re: First Contact - Enterprise-D Intro (Venture Variant)
The big head thing makes sense to me. Your engineering systems produce the power, propulsion, etc. Your saucer holds the labs and accommodation. So over time, the engineering systems shrink in proportion to the 'mission' space. Seems reasonable. I think that was the idea behind the design or at lea...

Re: First Contact - Enterprise-D Intro (Venture Variant)
I know there is alot of people who don't like the Galaxy class but that is a beauty shot there. I have the feeling quite a lot of people dislike the non-sensical approach of the GCS (families onboard etc.) but just from a design point of view it is imho hard to argue that this is one of the most be...

Re: Star Wars Episode IX – Teaser (Spoilers)
https://www.youtube.com/embed/3n1T3HxHd7Y I found it amusing how the trailer made it sound like something "epic" is going down here...."The story of a generation bla bla....." Now it might still have been a box office success.....but my feeling is....these movies will be quicker...

Re: Trek Facts- The Starship Classes Of Wolf 359
If you read the TNG TM, the upper and lower sections serve to transport the matter/antimatter streams to the reaction chamber. I always presumed that longer sections = more precise streams, maybe more stream capacity too, and so more power. However, I think a significant advance happened. The GCS c...

Re: Trek Facts- The Starship Classes Of Wolf 359
The warp core size was never an issue for me. So you put a warp core of similar size to a Galaxy size but shorter on a ship a fraction of the size, you still would have more than enough energy to do what you need from them. After all, the ship is smaller, not powering multiple phasers strips, two o...

Re: Trek Facts- The Starship Classes Of Wolf 359
(This is actually why the Defiant never made much sense in this regard imho. It was just WAY too powerfull for its scale. Like 50 years advanced compared to the rest of the fleet) For me, I figure the Defiant was designed as a one-fight sprite. It will be going up against a Borg cube, and will eith...
