McCoy was able to give a bottle of Romulan Ale to Admiral Kirk for his birthday in 2285. [1] In 2293 Lieutenant Saavik suggested some Romulan Ale may help the formal reception for Chancellor Gorkon go smoothly. Kirk agreed, though he would regret it afterwards due to the hangovers the officers suffered. [2] By 2375 the alliance between the Romulans, Klingons and Federation during the Dominion war changed Federation policy, and Romulan Ale became legal again.
