Review : Prime Factors - the first really good episode Voyager produced. Firstly it was nice to have the crew come across some pleasant aliens for a change, it was nice to see their openness, generosity and hospitality. OK sure they had a slightly seedy ulterior motive for wanting them there but hey, it's not like they secretly wanted to harvest their souls or suck out their brains or anything. Secondly it was great to have some of the secondary characters have a fairly large part in the episode (Seska and Carey). One of my favourite TNG episodes was Lower Decks from season 7 because it largely revolved around a group of nobodies rather than the main cast. I wish they did more of that, and at least here we get to see some other people for a change. Lastly I loved The scene at the end where Janeway was crewing out Torres and Tuvok. Takes me right back when I was sent to the headmasters office at school.

Review : A very good episode. They showed something we had never seen before, Starfleet on the wrong side of the Prime Directive. There was a real split in the crew, not just Maquis, but Starfleet as well, which we had been promised, but rarely got. The Sikarians were a remarkably peaceful island in the harsh Delta Quadrant, and made a fairly interesting species concept. I also have to say that the acting is picking up as well. Perhaps this was not the best, but still very good. By the way, Harry, no matter how keen you were to get home, the Trajector would have still been there a few hours later.

Review : Much has been said about this episode and it is, for me, one of the better Voyager efforts. While the “prime directive” issue is very interesting, I like this episode because it introduces the Sikarians. Here is a peaceful (rare in the Delta Quadrant or anywhere else in the Trek universe), cultured and hospitable people who are advanced enough technologically to have created the trajector. Presuming they have other technologies of equivalent sophistication, one can imagine they can defend themselves well enough to keep unruly neighbors at bay and make life on their world a paradise (as it seems to be). Admittedly, they aren’t perfect, as the episode shows (they seem to share some traits with the denizens of the Think Tank), but they’re vastly preferable to most Delta Quadrant species. (Come to think of it, they’re vastly preferable to MOST Trek species.) I understand that the writers had thought the Sikarians could be the new “bad guys” for Voyager, rather like the Ferengi were supposed to be the new “bad guys” in TNG. Obviously, this didn’t happen and the Sikarians, sadly, were never seen again.
